Report a Death

We extend our heartfelt condolences for your loss. SCERS is here to support you during this difficult time. Reporting a death helps us take the necessary steps to update our records and assist any beneficiaries who may be eligible for benefits.

Before You Begin

Submitting a notification of death is the first step in the reporting process. Once we receive your notification, SCERS will contact the appropriate individuals with further instructions regarding next steps, including any additional documentation that may be required.

What You’ll Need

When submitting your notification, please have the following information available:

For the Deceased:

  • Full name
  • Last four digits of their Social Security Number (SSA)
  • Date of birth
  • Date of death

For the Person Reporting:

  • Your full name
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number
  • Your relation to the deceased
  • Mailing address (optional)
