Investment Reports & Performance
SCERS invests with one mission in mind: to ensure that retirement benefits are paid not only to today’s retirees, but to generations of members in the future. This requires a careful balance of growth and protection, guided by law and overseen by the Board of Retirement.
Investments are spread across many types of assets—U.S. and international stocks, bonds, private equity, real estate, and infrastructure, to name a few. This diversification helps reduce risk, so that the system isn’t dependent on the success of any single market. But investments don’t happen in the dark. SCERS is committed to providing members and the public with transparent, detailed reports that show how the portfolio is performing, how decisions are made, and how resources are being managed.
These reports are published throughout the year and are reviewed at open meetings of the Board of Retirement. Together, they create a clear picture of the investment program, both in the short term and long term.
Why These Reports Matter
These reports work together to give members and stakeholders a clear window into SCERS’ investment program. The Investment Year in Review and Annual Investment Plan explains activity within the investment program towards SCERS’ long-term objectives. The Quarterly Reports, show performance and positioning along the way. The Annual Investment Operations Report provides information about ancillary investment activities, such as securities lending, class-action litigation claims, and proxy voting. The Alternative Assets Fee Report ensures transparency about costs.
By reviewing these reports, members can see not only how the system is performing, but also how it is being responsibly managed. This level of transparency is part of SCERS’ commitment to earning and keeping the trust of its members, retirees, and the community.
