Planning for retirement can feel complex, but you don’t have to do it alone. SCERS Retirement Specialists are available to meet with you one-on-one and answer your questions. An appointment is an opportunity to talk through your unique situation with someone who understands the rules and can guide you through the process.

During an appointment, you can:

• Confirm your eligibility to retire.
• Review your service credit and membership tier.
• Discuss survivor benefit options and the impact they may have on your beneficiaries.
• Ask about service credit purchases or redeposits.
• Make sure your application forms and supporting documents are complete.

Appointments are available in person at the SCERS office or by phone. SCERS recommends scheduling a session before your planned retirement date, so you have plenty of time to understand your options and prepare.

Even if you’re not yet ready to retire, a counseling session can provide valuable insight into how your decisions today may affect your benefit in the future.
